The Untapped Power of Love

A couple of weeks ago, at an Entrepreneur Summit, I had the privilege of meeting Stedman Graham. He is best known as Oprah's significant other, but he is a successful author and professional speaker in his own right reminding people to return to the proven principles of living that are found in common sense (which in our modern world is becoming less and less common).

As I listened, I became very impressed with the wisdom of his words and could see that they applied to youth as well as adults. He was speaking to a bunch of business people and he had the courage to choose as his topic: The Untapped Power of Love.

He pointed out that love has the power to help us overcome any obstacle and find sufficient motivation to accomplish any worthy desire.

“Love is the most powerful force in the world… Love is the only worthy motivation… Love is your identity, your purpose and the source of your joy and happiness.

“Fear, procrastination, laziness, discouragement, lack of focus, lack of desire, lack of persistence, etc., can all be conquered by loving more.  If you have any of those things in your life, it is because you do not love something sufficiently.  If you have sufficient love you have sufficient motivation (Desire) to overcome any of those obstacles.  A mother who is afraid of heights, can powerfully overcome her fear when the child she loves is in danger in high places.  A father who procrastinates can overcome his hesitation by learning to associate the task with something that he loves more than the comfort of his apathy or complacency.

“We can empower ourselves with love sufficient to achieving any task we undertake.”

To Empower Yourself with Love:
  1. Write down everything you love on a piece of paper.
  2. Prioritize then Organize yourself around what you love.
  3. This is your identity, your purpose, the reason you get up in the morning.
  4. This becomes the source of your joy and happiness.
  5. Associate everything you need to do with someone or something that you love.
  6. This gives you the necessary passion for what you do (even seemingly impossible things).
Prior to meeting Stedman I had always associated love with my feelings toward other people, not as a driving motivating force to get things done. And I had certainly never thought of consciously leveraging love in a way that could overcome weaknesses and turn them into strengths. When I got home from my trip, I spent a few days researching the untapped power of love. In my studies I came across the following quote about how my greatest hero was able to leverage love's power.

“Never underestimate the power of true love, for it knows no barriers.  When filled with God’s love, we can do and see and understand things that we could not otherwise do or see or understand. Filled with His love, we can endure pain, quell fear, forgive freely, avoid contention, renew strength, and bless and help others in ways surprising even to us.  Jesus Christ was filled with unfathomable love as He endured incomprehensible pain, cruelty, and injustice for us. Through His love for us, He rose above otherwise insurmountable barriers. His love knows no barriers. He invites us to follow Him and partake of His unlimited love so we too may rise above the pain and cruelty and injustice of this world and help and forgive and bless.”  – John H. Groberg

It is my challenge that we all seriously consider prioritizing our lives around what we truly love. By doing so we can empower ourselves to accomplish more than we ever thought possible while at the same time experiencing more joy and satisfaction.

Thanks Stedman for sharing this
Key to Success and Happiness.
